Steam provides DRM ( digital rights management), social networking services, video streaming, and server hosting.
Also, steam has expanded into a mobile digital, web-based, and online storefront. The service was released as a software client as a way for Valve for providing automatic updates for the games and expanded for including games from many publishers of the third party.
